A little late to getting to this summary but May has come and gone faster than my speed on the trails! It was a fun month of running with the majority of my workouts happening by moving boxes from one side of Austin to the other. AKA – Moving!
The big goal of May was to up the mileage from April which was an easier feat. I took a good chunk of time off in April for marathon recovery which means that I hadn’t covered as many miles as typical. We did end up moving though which certainly through a wrench in my training plans.
In the first week, I managed to cover 23.7 miles. I did a lot of shorter runs so I could run all my favorite routes around our old apartment one last time. This included highlights along the Greenbelt, downtown Austin, and my classic coffee loop ending with a Panera cup (not a sponsor, I wish).
Week 2 saw me at 25.6 miles total. It put me just below 50 miles for the month and we began moving. I finished my core workout simulating Dean Karnazes and put my new arm muscles to the test with lifting all the furniture. Luckily my friend Jordan was able to do the heavy lifting because he is actually strong.
Some of these runs included going around the new neighborhood and seeing that I was in a very very flat area. No more hills which meant very little elevation and not hard hill related workouts. Boooohooooo. (See me not that upset).
Week 3 and week 4 weren’t too exciting from the running side. I attempted to throw in 20 minute runs each day and the mileage for both weeks was 22.6 and 23.6 respectively with 11 miles ran in the last few days of May. No 30 mile weeks and so the goal will be moved to June!
Total amount of miles for the month was 106.5. On a positive note, it was the third month of the year with over 100 miles so that puts me on track for over 1000 for the year! This will be the most miles I have ran since 2020 which shows that even though I thought I ran a lot the past few years, numbers don’t lie.
Onto the sweaty summer times for me and hope May included good running for you!
